Pinky's Story
The Full Story
Pinky’s story - Before this salon was Pinky’s, it was previously named Shear Delight. It was owned by Debbie and Eric Quirouet. They were high school sweethearts and 40 years ago they began dog grooming in their basement. After they saved up enough money, they opened a grooming salon on 9 and Ryan - Shear Delight. About 10 years ago, a 6 month old baby pitty walked right through the front door of their salon. He had no tags. Eric called nearby vets and shelters to find this dog's mom and dad but had no luck. He boarded him at a doggy day care and let the shelters know, hoping that the owners would eventually find him. Crickets. The doggy daycare contacted Eric a couple months down the road and told him that nobody had been looking for the dog and asked if he would want the dog. Eric and Debbie already had 3 dogs but decided to take him anyway. They named him Pinky. Because even though he’s a pitbull, nobody could be afraid of a dog named Pinky. Fast forward many years to when I started working for Eric at his 12 and Ryan location in 2018. I loved Pinky from the first moment I met him. He would always come to work with Eric and his siblings, Party and Flirt, and was always good with the customers and their dogs. Eric developed a brain tumor in 2024 and very quickly passed away. Debbie had already been in a nursing home for quite a while, and Pinky’s only other family member is Debbie’s mom, who is 95. Pinky had no family to go to. I also was in the same position as Eric when Pinky came into his life. I already had three animals, but I was not about to let him go to a shelter. The landlord and I had been talking a lot when Eric was sick and after he passed. She told me that a month before Eric passed away he told her that me and the other workers were like grandchildren to him and he doesn’t know what he would do without us. Because he said that, the landlord offered me the opportunity to take over the salon. Eric was like a grandpa to me and if he never said that to the landlord, I would not be in this position I am in today. I would have loved to keep the name Shear Delight but for legal reasons, I was told to change it. I thought there was no better way to honor Eric and Debbie than to name the shop after Pinky.
